St. Charles Seeking a Net Gain in Gac

The St. Charles High tennis team had an up-and-down season in 1993.

"We did all right; we finished 7-8," Pirates coach J.R. Hinkley said. "But most of our success came in nonconference matches. In the GAC, we struggled a little bit."

The Pirates are 1-2 this season. They defeated GAC rival Troy and dropped non-league matches to Hazelwood West and Ritenour.

"I'm hoping that we'll do a little better in the conference this year," Hinkley said. "Some good seniors graduated and I understand some other guys decided not to play this season. We probably don't have the depth of some of the top teams, but I think we can play competitive tennis with most of the teams in the conference."

The Pirates will be led by junior Jason Theodosiou, who played No 3 singles as a freshman and No. 2 last year.

"Jason's a good player," Hinkley said. "He's 3-0 so far and I think he has a chance to be one of the top players in the GAC."
