Missouri turkey hunters killed 7,951 birds on opening day of the spring firearms hunting season Monday. That was 1,869 more than opening day last year.

The top county in number of birds checked was Franklin with 187. Osage had 182 and Texas 172. There were no hunter accidents. The season runs through next weekend.

The Fish for Sight buddy bass tournament on April 30 has been moved because of high water from Sterett Creek Marina on Truman Lake to the Deer Valley Campground on Shawnee Bend on Lake of the Ozarks. For information call Tom Renaud at 487-5732 or 843-7984.

Charlie Smith and Scott Troutt took second in the Bass World Sports tournament last Sunday on Lake of the Ozarks. They won $992 for four fish that weighed 11.88 pounds.

Dave and Jim Wilson of Alton, Ill., took third in the Bass World Sports tournament Saturday at Osage Bluff on Truman Lake. They won $420 for a single fish that weighed 6.68 pounds.

Warren Joseph and Jim Medlock of St. Louis won second in the AmBASSador's tournament on Lake of the Ozarks last Sunday. Their limit of five bass won them $1,000.

A group of 11 St. Louis investors has completed the purchase of Malinmor, the 2,100-acre hunting club near Bowling Green, Mo. They plan to keep it in its present usage.

Jim Rongey of St. Louis won the amateur division of the Central Pro-Am Association bass tournament April 11 on Bull Shoals Lake.

A Central Pro-Am tournament will be held May 21-22 at the Port of Kimberling at Kimberling City on Table Rock Lake. For information call (417) 881-2158.

Children of all ages can learn to fish in the free Pathway to Fishing program May 21 at Walker Lake in Kirkwood Park. Experienced anglers and biologists will teach 60-minute classes beginning every five minutes. Students will learn the steps of catching fish, and many will catch fish.

The third chicken dinner of the Edwardsville Glen Carbon chapter of Ducks Unlimited will be May 1, noon-4 p.m., at the Edwardsville Gun Club, on Staunton Road two miles northeast of Edwardsville, Ill.
