NOTHING WILL PLEASE Mom more this Mother's Day than a personalized gift from the heart. This year, surprise Mom with your own version of a "thought for the day" calendar filled with pictures, poems, recipes, inspirational quotes and whimsical thoughts to last all week long. Since Mother's Day is just around the corner (May 8), you and your child (or grandchild) will want to get an early start making this thoughtful remembrance.

To make the "Special Thoughts for Mom" calendar for a week you'll need:

8 3x5-inch plain index cards

2 metal rings (available at stationery stores)

Hole punch

Markers, pens, crayons

Punch two holes, evenly spaced, 1/2 inch from the top of each card. Be sure the holes line up when the cards are stacked together.

Print a day of the week, Sunday through Saturday, at the top of each of seven cards. Under each day, create an original idea to brighten Mom's day. Decorate the remaining card for the top of the collection and print a title on it such as "Special Thoughts for Mom" or "A Bundle of Love for Mom. …
