A doctor says it was a miracle that 3-year-old Seiji Nakayama survived the China Airlines jetliner crash that killed 263 others.

No less incredible was that Seiji's 6-year-old brother, Yuji, and seven other passengers were alive Wednesday night, a day after the plane crashed and exploded into flames at Nagoya airport, 170 miles west of Tokyo.

Dr. Toshio Sugiyama, who operated on Seiji, said he was in serious condition but should live. "It is a miracle that he was spared. If all goes well, he should be able to leave the hospital in about a month."

The boys' Filipino mother, Daisy, was among the dead. The boys' father, Tatsumi Nakayama - who was not on the plane - said, "I'm just happy that they're alive. We lost their mother, but God spared me my boys."

China Airlines - a Taiwanese airline - flew 334 relatives to Nagoya from Taiwan Wednesday. They faced the sad task of identifying victims laid out in a tent. But because of the force of the impact and the intense fire that followed, only 123 bodies of the 263 killed had been identified by Wednesday night. …
