Both the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists (AFTRA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have told members they may no longer accept roles in Anheuser-Busch television or radio commercials. The reason: A-B notified the two groups that it will not be bound by 1994 AFTRA and SAG commercials contracts.

An A-B spokesperson said its negotiations with the two organizations have bogged down over commercials that use actual consumers of Bud Light. SAG and AFTRA want guarantees that their members will be used in those commercials, the A-B spokesman said. "This would be an unjust restriction on the creative concept of our commercials. . . . Where these commercials call for the talents of professional performers, we stand ready and willing to employ them. Our national commercials will continue to use professional performers employed under the SAG and AFTRA commercials agreements."

Steve Brauer, commander of the First Ancient & Honorable Ladue Artillery Battery, is practicing for the battery's appearance in Ladue's Dogwood Festival on May 21. "We're having the festival," Ladue Mayor Edie Spink told friends, "even though the dogwoods have finished blooming. Steve and Joe White (another commandant) are parade-happy!" It begins at 11 a.m. in front of the NCR Building on South 40 Drive and goes to City Hall, where hotdogs and dogwoods will be for sale. Spink says the festival will be an annual event, dogwoods or not.
