Bill Ok'd to Regulate Adult Stores, Shows

Strip shows and adult bookstores will come under some new regulations in Wentzville.

The Board of Aldermen gave preliminary approval Thursday to a bill that regulates businesses offering pornographic books or magazines for sale or that offers adult entertainment, such as nude dancing or x-rated movies. Final consideration of the bill is expected later this month.

The aldermen tabled the bill last month to review some of the fees in the legislation. In particular, the aldermen were concerned about the business license fee, which is $200.

McReynolds says the bill is aimed at protecting public safety, health and welfare.

"The bill will regulate those type of businesses to the best of our ability within the parameters of the statute," he said.

McReynolds says Wentzville does not have any strip joints or adult bookstores but there have been rumors that such businesses may want to open. He says there have been some inquiries about opening such businesses.

City Attorney Robert Wohler says he modeled the bill after those being enforced in other cities. …
