Dear Heloise: About a year ago, my brother Lloyd, 65 years old, was baby-sitting his two granddaughters. Now, Lloyd is quite the cook and baker, so they asked Grandpa to make some chocolate-chip cookies and he was glad to oblige.

The cookies looked great as he popped them into the oven. Soon thereafter, clouds of billowing smoke came out of the oven and the smoke detector was wailing like crazy!

It seems that Lloyd had put confectioners' sugar in instead of flour! His daughter had not marked the container it was in.

Dear Heloise: I have a hint for recycling knee-highs, those handy half-stockings. When no longer of use, cut off about 1/2 inch from the top and use it as an elastic band.

Cut up the rest of the stocking into strips to tie up the vegetables and flowers in your garden.
