Developers who want to build 18 new condominiums in Shrewsbury failed to convince some residents during a meeting recently that the project will not hurt property values or add to the area's traffic problems.

The Shrewsbury Planning and Zoning Committee heard an earful from residents who want the city to reject a request by Taylor Morley Inc.s to build on three acres off Trianon Parkway Drive near the Kenrick 8 movie theater.

"What benefit will this be to the city. The residents have told you they don't want any more condos," said resident Joe Sommer. "Now we're changing our master plan merely because of the request of developers."

The site has never been developed, although it has been zoned commercial since 1980. Taylor Morley has proposed building nine, two-unit buildings. Each unit would sell for $155,000. Several condominium complexes have already sprouted up around the site, raising concerns about traffic and storm-water run off.
