Oakmont Country Club exacted some measure of revenge Sunday on the U.S. Open contenders.

The best score of the day among the leaders was 1-under-par 70 by Loren Roberts, Colin Montgomerie and Curtis Strange.

For Roberts and Montgomerie, 70 was good enough to qualify for a three-way playoff today. Third-round leader Ernie Els struggled to a 2-over 73 and will join the fun beginning at 9 a.m. (St. Louis).

The day's best score was 69, by Jim McGovern and Duffy Waldorf, who finished down the line.

"The greens are really, really hard. It was tough out there today," Els said.
