The St. Charles Humane Society will hold its first benefit golf tournament Sept. 19 at Mid Rivers Golf Complex in St. Peters. Registration is at noon, with tee-off at 1 p.m.

The four-player scramble costs $60 per person and includes greens fees, use of a cart and dinner. "Mulligans" may be purchased at $2.50 each.

A special hole-in-one prize is a car. Awards and prizes will be distributed after the tournament.

The St. Peters Royals, a select fast-pitch softball organization, will be holding tryouts to form teams for the 1995 season. Tryouts will be held Sept. 10-11 and Sept. 24-25. The Royals are also looking for coaches and managers.

Thirty-five of the best women anglers will be combing the coves of the mighty Mississippi for the prestigious title of Bass 'n Gal Classic Star World Champion Sept. 26 through Oct. 1.

The Classic Star competitors will launch from Riverside Harbor, which is located on the Mississippi backwaters, just 10 miles from downtown St. Charles.

Contenders will practice Sept. 26-28, with the two days of competition set for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The women will be fishing for five bass measuring 12 inches or more. Weigh-ins each day of the competition will begin at 2:15 p.m. in Frontier Park.

In addition to the title, the winner will get more than $25,000 in cash and awards.

Local sponsors of the event are Noah's Ark Best Western Hotel, the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau and St. Chrles County Convention and Sports Facilities Authority.

For the first time, golf's elite will convene Sept. 28 at Forest Hills Country Club in Lake Saint Louis for the St. Louis Golf Awards Dinner.

The dinner will honor the metropolitan area's top golfers in 1994. Awards will include Gateway PGA player and professional of the year and metropolitan male and female amateur players of the year, including junior and senior players. …
