Post Office Gives Union Station a Commemorative Postcard

St. Louis Postmaster Larry Wood and John C. Goodman, U.S. Postal Service district sales manager for Missouri and Southern Illinois, were getting writer's cramp Saturday signing programs for the dedication of the new St. Louis Union Station postcard.

"Isn't this a marvelous turnout? I feel like a celebrity," said Goodman, who explained several times that he was not that other John Goodman - Roseanne Arnold's better half on TV.

More than 600 free programs with the first-day-issue postcard were handed out - still not enough for the overflow crowd at a brief ceremony under the station train shed.

In the background gleamed refurbished yellow, gray and red coaches, dome cars, dining cars and sleepers in a reconstruction of Union Pacific's "City of St. Louis" streamliner train that rolled out of St. Louis Union Station in mid-1950s bound for Los Angeles.

The postcard ceremony and tours of the "City of St. Louis" were part of a 100th birthday party this weekend for the station. …
