A Taste of Music and `Art' as Well

Article excerpt

THERE'LL BE more than food to sample on Friday and Saturday when the third annual Taste St. Louis sets up shop on the Gateway Mall.

More than 30 St. Louis restaurants are expected to serve up food at booths that will line Market and Chestnut streets between 8th and 10th streets. But there will also be entertainment from 11 musical acts, including Lousiana's Buckwheat Zydeco, and the St. Louis Art Car Expo will add a sideshow of unusual art on wheels.

Taste St. Louis will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The entertainment is free; samples of food from the restaurants will cost $1, $2 and $3.

Mystic Voyage, the St. Louis R&B/jazz/pop ensemble, will perform a lunch concert on Friday, and the Drovers, a Celtic rock band from Chicago, and Buckwheat Zydeco will take the stage that evening. On Saturday, music will run continuously, alternating between back-to-back stages, with eight St. Louis groups running the gamut from jazz, rock and blues to salsa to reggae.

The Art Car Expo will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, with more than 25 wildly painted and ornamented rolling artworks displayed along Market Street. ENTERTAINMENT
