Hot Tickets covers the period from Friday through the following Thursday. Our opinionated selections put an emphasis on acts you might otherwise overlook. DON'T MISS Tony Bennett, Fox Theatre, Saturday, Oct. 15

Tony Bennett is riding a resurgence of popularity, much as he's done many times before during a career that has spanned more than 40 years of singing from what he likes to refer to as "the great American songbook." Bennett deserves to be heard, though, not because he's suddenly hip again, but because he loves and understands those songs, written by the likes of Gershwin, Kern, Berlin and Rodgers, and because he can deliver every intellectual and emotional nuance inherent in them.

Bennett shows no sign of losing any of his vocal prowess. He just keeps on doing what he does, and he has managed in the process to attract fans in just about every age group. If you've never seen him live, you owe it to yourself to catch this American legend performing in what is still the prime of his ability. Steve Pick
