College graduates looking for a new job can expect one of the best hiring seasons in years, according to a new study released Monday.

The study, compiled by Michigan State University's Collegiate Employment Research Institute, projects a 5.9 percent rise in the hiring of the class of 1994-95 graduates, the second consecutive yearly increase.

But the study also said college graduates should re-examine their attitudes about salary levels and promotions.

"The attitudes and expectations of new college graduates are higher than their value on the market," said Patrick Scheetz, director of the Collegiate Employment Research Institute.

"Employers are reminding students that they still have some learning to do and that they need to show positive performance on the job."

He added, "Students are thinking advancement when they should be thinking job performance. There's a whole new awakening; students proved themselves in college, now they have to prove themselves all over again. …
