Raymond Kuester, a longtime St. Louis insurance executive and volunteer, died Sunday (Dec. 18, 1994) at his home in Friendship Village South in southwest St. Louis County after a brief illness. He was 89.

Mr. Kuester had been executive vice president of the Hickey-Mitchell Co. when he retired in 1973. He had been with the old St. Louis-based company for 44 years, starting in insurance sales.

He was a native of St. Louis and a graduate of Yeatman High School.

For 10 years after retiring, Mr. Kuester devoted his time to helping others through his founding of the I'm Third Fund of the Brentwood Congregational Church. The I'm Third Fund was based on the motto, "God first, other people second, I'm third," which he first heard as a young boy at a YMCA conference. "Ever since then, I have tried to incorporate that into my life," Mr. Kuester said in a newspaper interview in 1986.

He was also active in helping others through the YMCA, as well as many other local charities. …
