Geile-Rexford Wins the $2 Million Sherman Account

Geile-Rexford Associates has been awarded the $2 million advertising account for the David Sherman Corp., a St. Louis-based importer, bottler and manufacturer of alcoholic beverages since 1958.

Seven other local agencies competed for the account, which switched from its long-time ad agency in Kansas City.

Timothy Leon, executive vice president and account director for Geile-Rexford, said, "Our goal is to develop brand positionings for the different liquors that David Sherman offers and drive home the message through trade advertising programs and consumer promotions. We intend to add new ingredients to David Sherman's advertising mix."

BANKING ON BASKETBALL: Roosevelt Bank has become a sponsor of the University of Missouri-Columbia men's basketball program to promote the university as a state-wide institution. Part of the program developed by Drolich Associates Public Relations includes the sponsorship of "Tiger Talk," a syndicated radio show featuring Mizzou coach Norm Stewart.

Another feature is a 4-by-8-foot illuminated sign at center court to provide state-wide visibility during televised games. Tiger basketball bumper stickers and game schedules are available at Roosevelt's 81 locations throughout Missouri.

BURGER BRIEF: Last week's announcement of an account change by the Midwest Area IV offices of Hardee's Food Systems Inc. to EvansGroup of Denver and its partner, Puckett Group, does not affect its current relationship with MultiMedia PR Group of St. Louis. MultiMedia continues to provide public relations and other marketing extensions to the Midwest region, as it has for the last six years.

In addition, the agency provides sales promotion, public relations and other marketing extensions to Hardee's Area III, which includes 15 broadcast and non-broadcast co-ops. The area includes Indianapolis and Detroit, and extends as far east as Harrisburg, Pa. MultiMedia is headed by founder Gentry W. Trotter.

UNDER CONTRACT: Kupper Parker Communications Inc. has been inked as agency of record for the eight Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken restaurants in the greater Kansas City market. The restaurants are owned by Heartland Chicken Inc., a division of Eddy's Catering.

KPC will purchase media, provide local market analysis and promotions and support Popeyes' national advertising through local marketing opportunities. The agency is developing 1995 marketing plans on based on a $300,000 budget. KPC currently works with four Popeyes franchises with 12 locations in the St. Louis market. . . .

Jacobsen Advertising has been selected to develop advertising for the St. Louis Marriott Pavilion's "Casino Escape" campaign, which breaks this month in 12 Midwestern states.
