Dorf & Stanton Makes Its Wager on Gaming Industry

Casino Communications has been designated as the newest division of Dorf & Stanton Communications Inc.; one that the firm hopes will become the premier public relations resource for members of the gaming industry.

"Dorf & Stanton has extensive experience in gaming, and we believe the best way to attract and serve gaming clients is to concentrate our expertise within a single division," explained Alex Stanton, Dorf & Stanton's president and chief executive. "Casino Communications will offer the best people, creativity and resources in the industry to serve gaming operators and related interests."

Casino Communications will be based at Dorf & Stanton's St. Louis office, but will be supported by the agency's national staff as well as leading gaming industry consultants. The division will also provide clients with access to other marketing and sales promotional support through established partnerships with several advertising, graphic and promotional firms.

Craig Kaminer, senior vice president and general manager of Dorf & Stanton's local office, said Casino Communications will serve all categories of gaming, but will initially target the expanding riverboat casino industry throughout the Midwest.

The shop currently is providing strategic counsel and public relations support for Harrah's St. Louis-Riverport Casino, a project that is expected to rank as the largest riverboat gaming investment in Missouri when completed.

LICENSE(S) TO SELL: The sale of personal seat licenses (PSLs) by FANS Inc. for the new St. Louis Rams is being aided by the efforts of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles. In addition to the FANS Inc. campaign, DMB&B also developed special advertising for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Southwestern Bell Telephone and TWA welcoming the football franchise to town.

A major print and broadcast ad campaign promoting the sale of PSLs broke last Tuesday, the same day the Rams officially announced their intention to move to St. Louis.

Under the theme, "The Rampage Is On," the campaign consists of two 30-second television spots, two 60-second radio spots, six full-page print ads, one two-page spread and one half-page application advertisement.

Some of the FANS Inc. print ads provide stadium seating charts, PSL applications and information on how the program works, while others running later this month will count down to the PSL deadline.

NEW BIZ: Local discount merchant Venture Stores Inc. has selected W.B. Doner & Co. of Southfield, Mich., to handle its account, previously handled by Publicis/Bloom in Dallas. Billings were estimated at $6 million to $8 million.

Doner was selected after a three-month review that was narrowed to W.B. Doner and two other finalists, D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles-St. Louis and Tracy-Locke, a DDB Needham agency in Dallas. . . .
