Article excerpt

IN THE WINGS: The perpetual motion man, the Rev. Bruce Davis, senior pastor of Kirkwood United Methodist Church, took time off to wed the charming Nancy Schafer, senior pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Ballwin. After a honeymoon on the West Coast, the revs are back in their respective pulpits. Rev. Bruce is polishing up his keyboard talents to perform with other members of the Epiphany Blues Concert Band at Kirkwood UMC at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 and at 6 p.m. Feb. 12. . . .

The Sondheim musical landmark, "Company," will hit the boards at the New Line Theatre in the fall. Ironically, Stephen Sondheim is a member of the theater's board of directors. Scott Miller, New Line's artistic director, said that Jerry Herman has also just joined the board. Meanwhile, Miller is revving up for "In the Blood," a vampire musical, which opens May 5, and for "Gay 90's," a new revue for '96. . . .

Just in from the Sundance Film Festival are St. Louis Film Festival board members Mary Strauss, Barbara Jones (director), Marcia Harris, Pat Scallett (membership chief) and Carrie Houk, famed casting director. The group was in Park City, Utah, to tubthump St. Louis as a film location and to scout entries for the 1995 St. Louis Film Festival. The entourage attended over 75 screenings, dozens of pour-ins and rubbed shoulders with Robert Redford, Sally Field, Nicolas Cage, Sarah Jessica Parker, supermodel Naomi Campbell and Robert Wuhl. Albert Berger, one of the producers of "King of the Hill," took top honors in the best documentary category for "Crumb," which chronicles the life of R. Crumb, the cartoonist who gave us Zap Comics and Fritz the Cat. Word leaked that Paramount Studios has a few pre-production types scouting our town for an upcoming epic. Delegates are still reeling over announcements made before each screening: "Please refrain from receiving or making calls on cellular phones during the showings."
