Through the years with the McDonald's All American High School Basketball Game: 1978: McDonald's sees the potential for a national game when, in '77, it names an all-star team to compete against a team from the Washington, D.C., area. On the '77 roster: Magic Johnson. In '78, McDonald's first national game attracts 13,063 to The Spectrum in Philadelphia. Mark Aguirre stands out with a 17-point performance. 1979: What might have been the best high school senior class ever - Dominique Wilkins, Isiah Thomas, Ralph Sampson, James Worthy, John Paxson and Byron Scott - plays before a sellout crowd in Charlotte, N.C. But UCLA recruit Darren Daye steals the MVP award with a 22-point game. Steve Stipanovich (DeSmet) represents St. Louis at the game. 1980: Sam Perkins sets a rebounding record that still stands, pulling down 24 in the game at Oakland, Calif. 1981: Michael Jordan, a skinny swingman from Wilmington, N.C., sets a McDonald's game record with 30 points and seals a 96-95 victory for the East by hitting a one-and-one with 11 seconds left. Jordan got ample support from Patrick Ewing. 1982: The McDonald's record crowd of 15,836 at the Rosemont Horizon sees hometowner and Illinois-bound Efrem Winters take the MVP award with a 19-point effort that is topped only by Kenny Walker and Dell Curry with 20 apiece. 1983: Syracuse-bound Pearl Washington and Kentucky recruit Winston Bennett share MVP honors before a crowd of 15,000 at The Omni in Atlanta. 1984: LSU-bound John Williams brings down the house at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, scoring 27 points and grabbing 16 rebounds as his West team wins 131-106. 1985: Danny Ferry and his East teammates run Illinois recruit Lowell Hamilton and the West off the court at SMU's Moody Coliseum, winning by 30 points. 1986: Derrick Coleman, J.R. Reid, Rumeal Robinson and Terry Mills were the marquee attractions, and the game at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena lives up to its billing. …
