School Board Hopefuls Face Big Test in Lincoln County

Four school districts in Lincoln County - Elsberry, Silex, Troy, and Winfield - are holding elections for school board seats.

In Elsberry, two directors will be elected from among three candidates. Two other candidates are vying for an unexpired one-year term. In Troy, four candidates, including the two incumbents, are vying for two seats on the board.

Candidates in both Silex and Winfield are running unopposed.

Two candidates will be elected in each district, unless noted.

ELSBERRY

JOHN HOWARD

Howard, an incumbent, did not respond to a mailed questionnaire.

DON WOLF

Wolf, an incumbent, did not respond to a mailed questionnaire.

JIM WEBB

AGE: 46.

HOME: Elsberry.

OCCUPATION: Air Force, retired.

POLITICAL CAREER: Never elected to public office before.

PRIORITIES: To help provide the equipment and atmosphere necessary to enable each and every student in our school district realize their full potential.

QUALIFICATIONS: Served on Student Improvement Through Education Board at school in state of California and on a curriculum committee for school district in Nebraska. I've been involved with several schools countrywide and can bring new ideas and methods to help provide a better education for our children. I'm interested in helping our youth develop to their full potential both academically and physically, as evidenced by my involvement as a volunteer soccer coach for over seven years. I also have a bachelor's degee in business and a master's degree in public administration, plus over 25 years supervisory experience.

PRIORITIES: I want to put more focus on education and less on frivolous programs. I believe school activities should be prohibited on Sundays. I will promote safer buses, including more scrutiny of the equipment and the drivers.
