MISSOURI JEFFERSON CITY Senate Advances Bill To Fund Airport Panel

The Missouri Senate gave first-round approval Thursday to legislation restoring state funding for the Missouri-St. Louis Metropolitan Airport Authority.

It also requires that at least one of the St. Louis County members of the authority be a resident of a community that adjoins Lambert Field. State funding for the authority expired in 1983, but Sen. John Schneider, D-Florissant, said the authority needs state support now to deal with new airport problems.

The airport authority funding provision was included in a bill that gives eminent domain powers to airports that want to expand. Post-Dispatch Jefferson City Bureau ST. LOUIS Crenshaw Votes Won't Count, Judge Decides

A St. Louis circuit judge ordered Thursday that the Election Board cannot count write-in votes for Ann Shirley Crenshaw in the election Tuesday for 2nd Ward alderman.

Crenshaw lost to incumbent Alderman Nancy Weber in the March 7 Democratic primary by a more than 2-1 margin. Weber filed suit to block Crenshaw's write-in campaign.

Judge Robert Dierker noted that state law prohibits unsuccessful primary candidates from running as write-ins in the general election.

The law says, "No person who filed as a party or independent candidate for nomination or election to an office may, without withdrawing as provided by law, file as a write-in candidate for election to the same office for the same term." ST. LOUIS COUNTY Wildwood Group Against Amendment On Ballot

A state constitutional amendment on the ballot Tuesday is drawing the opposition of the committee that wants Wildwood incorporated in far west St. Louis County. The measure would eliminate a constitutional safeguard for people, they said in a statement made public Thursday.

The amendment would reverse the state Constitution's ban against special legislation affecting only one county; it was part of the Constitution adopted in 1945. …
