There appears to be about a 48-hour gray area between the major-league players ending their strike and a potential vote by the owners to lock them out of camps. So Cardinals alternate player representative Tom Pagnozzi was half-seriously considering showing up at camp today.

"They've got a home game? Hel-lo," he said on Friday. "I'm going to show up. Should I show up? How chapped would they be if I showed up? That might seal my fate with the Cardinals.

"But they should be meeting right now whether to lock us out. (Today) and Sunday I could have two workouts in. I'm going to call my agent to see if I should do it."

Pagnozzi said, however, he didn't really believe the strike was over "until they announce whether they lock us out or not. . . . I don't think they're that far away."

Told that Cardinals negotiator Stuart Meyer thought the sides were far apart, Pagnozzi changed direction a bit. "Stuart's a hard-liner," he said. "Maybe we are far, far away. …
