Richard Dortch plans to stand before thousands of Christians in Hampton this weekend and ask for forgiveness.

Dortch served 16 months in a federal prison for helping his former boss, Jim Bakker, bilk millions of dollars from contributors to Bakker's Pentecostal playground, Heritage U.S.A.

Since his release in June 1991, the 63-year-old former president of the scandal-plagued PTL television ministry has crisscrossed the nation and admitted his sinful avarice.

Dortch has appeared on "Larry King Live," written four books and founded Life Challenge, a ministry that helps other professionals who have fallen from grace.

But the most difficult act of repentance, Dortch says, has been facing the multitudes of Christians whose donations paid for PTL's greedy extravagance (Dortch netted a $270,000 salary in just three months in 1987) and hush money to Bakker's mistress, Jessica Hahn.

"When I left PTL, I didn't go to church for five months," says Dortch, who will speak at the Bethel Temple Assembly of God's three worship services Sunday. …
