Now that he's been a member of the Cincinnati Reds for one full year, Deion Sanders emphatically calls the trade that brought him north from the Atlanta Braves "the best thing that ever happened to me . . . in baseball, of course."

The nation's premier two-sport star, who was bitter toward Atlanta management when he was traded for Roberto Kelly and minor-leaguer Roger Etheridge on May 29, 1994, is now thankful. He's fallen in love with the city of Cincinnati and its inhabitants. He is greatly appreciative of the support he's received during his slow start at the plate this season, as well as throughout his arrest and eventual acquittal from charges resulting from a motor scooter incident at Riverfront Stadium.

"Coming to Cincinnati was the turning point for me in baseball," Sanders said. "I could have been successful in Atlanta, but there would have always been something else that I would have had to deal with."
