Jaguars' Top Pick Undergoes Surgery

Article excerpt

Tony Boselli, the Jacksonville Jaguars' top draft pick, is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

Boselli, selected No. 2 in the NFL draft and projected to start at left tackle for the expansion team, returned to Jacksonville from training camp in Stevens Point, Wis., on Thursday for the surgery. The surgery was performed by team physician Stephen Lucie and a team from the Jacksonville Orthopedic Center.

Boselli also dislocated his kneecap and the surgery had a dual purpose: to remove loose pieces of cartilage and try to prevent a recurrence of the injury, Lucie said.

"We're not going to have the kid for a while," said coach Tom Coughlin, who originally thought the 6-foot-7, 323-pounder would be out for between 10 days and two weeks with a sprained knee.

Now it appears Boselli will miss the entire preseason, which begins July 29 against the Carolina Panthers in Canton, Ohio, and possibly even the first few games of the regular season beginning with the opener Sept. 3 against the Houston Oilers.

Boselli was injured Monday in a one-on-one drill against defensive lineman Jeff Lageman. At the time, team officials said, an MRI found no serious damage, only a sprained knee.

"I lost control and a very unfortunate incident occurred . . . I made a terrible mistake in my judgment and in my life," Moon told reporters in a press conference at his home.

Felicia Moon, who told police that her husband of 14 years had slapped her in the head and choked her to the point of nearly passing out, repeated an earlier pledge not to press charges in the case.

Despite her intention not to take legal action, local prosecutors have said they may try to file charges against Moon and force his wife to testify. …
