A new series of car-care news segments developed and syndicated by Fleishman-Hillard Inc. has started appearing in television newscasts across the country.

The one-minute "Instant Car Clinic" segments cover a wide variety of automotive maintenance tips and related information. More than 30 of the segments have been produced for Valvoline Instant Oil Change and offered to stations on a flexible barter basis.

The segments are targeted for morning or weekend newscasts. Syndication terms allow an unlimited number of times each segment can run in return for two 30-second commercial availabilities anywhere in the station's broadcast week. Radio broadcasts also are planned.

BIG DEAL: Solomon/Turner, a public relations firm, is helping the Lawrence Group Architects publicize its "Upper Deck Field of Teams," a nine-foot tall, 50-square-foot structure made of Upper Deck baseball, football, basketball and hockey trading cards.

Volunteer staffers from the Lawrence Group created the structure, which took 1,000 man hours to complete. It is touted as the largest structure created totally from sports trading cards.

The Upper Deck card structure is available for display at area shopping centers and eventually will be donated to the Mathews-Dickey Boys Club.

SERVING PIZZA: Tennis whiz Pete Sampras and longtime champ John McEnroe, who now does commentary of major events, are the latest celebrity tandem hyping Pizza Hut's Stuffed Crust Pizza. Beginning this week, the duo appears in a television commercial created by BBDO-New York. The humorous spot has the controversial McEnroe tutoring "nice guy" Sampras. The spot ends with Sampras showing McEnroe how to eat pizza the wrong way - crust first.

Introduced five months ago, Pizza Hut's Stuffed Crust pizza has been generating top numbers with a flock of celebrities promoting it, including such unlikely combinations as Donald Trump and Ivana, and pro basketball's Dennis Rodman and David Robinson. …
