The following incidents were among those that were reported to police departments in the St. Louis metropolitan area or that involved action in an area court: ACCIDENTS

St. Louis: A woman was critically injured Tuesday evening by a hit-and-run driver outside the Fox Theatre, 527 North Grand Boulevard. The woman, who was believed to be in her 60s, was taken to a hospital. Police were looking for the driver. The accident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. A witness said it appeared that the victim was on her way into the theater, where "Phantom of the Opera" is playing. ASSAULTS

St. Louis: A woman was beaten and sexually assaulted about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday by an intruder who kicked in the front door of a home near North Florissant and College avenues. The woman, 43, was treated at a hospital and released.

St. Louis: A homeless man, 35, was critically wounded Tuesday by another homeless man who shot him in the abdomen with a pistol. The victim was standing with a group of other people in the 500 block of La Salle Street near Broadway when he was shot about 6:30 p.m. Police had no motive. COURT ACTIONS

Edwardsville: A prosecutor in Madison County is asking for the maximum sentence of three years in prison for three men who desecrated a grave near Edwardsville. The last of the three men pleaded guilty Monday of felony criminal damage to property for digging up the grave of an 89-year-old woman in December at the St. James Cemetery and for using a headstone to pry open the coffin. They also knocked over 23 headstones. Michael W. Marco, 19, of Edwardsville, pleaded guilty Monday, adding his plea to those entered earlier by Robert C. Stover, 20, and Leonard D. Hill IV, 19, both of Worden. Stover will be sentenced Sept. 21, Hill on Sept. 26. No date has been set for Marco. The crime led to state legislation increasing penalties for cemetery vandalism.

Pontoon Beach: A 17-year-old youth from Indiana pleaded guilty Tuesday of fatally shooting a Sunday school teacher who was working as a convenience-store clerk in Pontoon Beach. …
