Police Suspect Drug Overdose Killed Woman Found in Trunk

Police believe a drug overdose probably killed a woman who vanished three weeks ago and whose body was found Saturday in an old trunk in a basement in East St. Louis.

She was identified Tuesday as Ann Marie Stanley, 27, of the 2800 block of Harvard Street in State Park Place, near Collinsville.

Her husband, Robert Stanley, reported her missing after he returned from work on July 31 to find that she and the couple's pickup had vanished. He operates a small drywall company in Caseyville.

Ann Stanley moved to this area from Texas about five years ago, her husband told authorities. She previously worked as a dancer at Dottie's Body Shop, a club near Caseyville, but had been a homemaker since they married about two years ago.

Ann Stanley was being treated for manic depression but had made substantial progress in her struggle to overcome the illness, Stanley said. A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at St. John Cemetery in Colllinsville.
