Dr. R. Emmet Kelly, a specialist in occupational health and medical director for the Monsanto Co. for 28 years, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday (Aug. 23, 1995) at his home in Defiance. He was 85.

Dr. Kelly grew up in St. Louis and graduated from St. Louis University High School and St. Louis University. He graduated from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1932 and joined Monsanto in 1938.

He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. After the war, he returned to Monsanto's medical department and became medical director in 1946. After he retired in 1974, he was medical director of Consolidated Aluminum Co. for 10 years.

Dr. Kelly also was an assistant clinical professor of internal medicine at St. Louis University medical school.

In 1938, he married the former Ursula Moloney, who died in 1990. They were active in fund-raising for Maryville University, Mrs. Kelly's alma mater, and the St. Louis University medical school. …
