Q. I will be traveling to Boise, Idaho, and know that the surrounding country, including Oregon, Montana and Wyoming, is quite breathtaking. I'll use Boise as home base. Can you suggest any escorted bus tours that would include some or all of the above areas? I could spend anywhere up to a month on this trip.

A. How do you feel about driving?

Just two companies run bus tours, but both do only short tours around the Boise area of southwestern Idaho. They are Upland Tours in suburban Caldwell, (800) 282-0608, and Harmon Travel in Boise, (208) 388-3000.

Check the Official Idaho State Travel Guide and the Visitors Guide to Boise, available by phoning the Idaho Travel Council at (800) 635-7820, and you'll find many tempting day trips - the Snake River, wine country, preserved Gold Rush boom towns Idaho City and Silver City, and so on.

Boise itself sounds like a delightful place, and you should find much to do there.
