Residents Protest Subdivision Planned North of Weiss Road

About seven residents of Cottleville attended last Thursday night's meeting of the Board of Aldermen to oppose a plan for a subdivision north of Weiss Road.

The developer wants to divide the 76 acres into 10,000-square-foot lots. The land is now zoned for lots of one acre, or 43,560 square feet.

"We are concerned about the safety and welfare of our children and grandchildren, which seems secondary to these people," said Barb Mitchell, spokeswoman for the residents. "We believe something can be worked out as long as we work together. However, we were totally left in the dark about this whole thing until now."

Concerns that were raised at the public hearing included heavier traffic and speeders on Weiss. The preliminary plan calls for one entrance and exit for the subdivision. The Cottleville Fire Protection District has asked for two or more entrances in any new development in case one entrance is blocked and emergency vehicles need to enter a subdivision.
