MISSOURI ST. LOUIS 2 Highway Lanes Downtown To Be Closed After 9 A.M.

Two center lanes on north-bound Interstate 44-55, just south of the Poplar Street Bridge, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 pm. today.

The lanes will be closed for work on joints on the Third Street viaduct, the Highway Department said. ST. LOUIS City Sticks With Ouster Of Contractor At Jail Site

City officials said Tuesday that they would not reconsider their order firing the contractor on a $10 million jail construction project on the City Workhouse grounds.

The contractor is Orf Construction Co. On Friday, the city told Orf to be off the job by next Monday.

Robert F. Henry Jr., president of the Board of Public Service, said Tuesday that although the project is almost complete, he had lost faith in the contractor's ability to finish it. ST. LOUIS City, County Police On-Line With Fingerprint Database

The St. Louis and St. Louis County police departments have a new way to nab bad guys - a computer connection to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's fingerprint database.

Officials said the system would slash the time it takes to sift through unidentified prints. This will help them see if suspects in crimes here have committed crimes elsewhere in the state.
