MISSOURI ST. CHARLES COUNTY Council Opposes Gay History Month

The St. Charles County Council is condemning a resolution passed in July by the 2.2 million-member National Education Association that supports the celebration of a Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual History Month.

The County Council declared Tuesday night that school districts "should not deviate from their principal task of educating students while promoting traditional family and social values." The council's resolution urged school districts "to join us in our opposition."

Jan Regot, board president of the Francis Howell School District, the largest in the county, said she had heard "absolutely nothing" about efforts by local teachers to promote such an observance.

Mitzi Reinecke, a lesbian in St. Charles, said, "Homosexuals throughout history have contributed greatly to civilization, and they should be honored for their contributions." ST. LOUIS 310 Summer Interns Honored For Efforts

Hundreds of juniors and seniors at St. Louis high schools were honored Wednesday evening for participating in a summer internship program.

The St. Louis Internship Program recognized 310 inner-city students for their eight weeks of employment in 58 different professions in St. Louis and St. Louis County. Students worked in banks and hospitals and accounting, architectural and law firms.

Mayor Freeman Bosley Jr. was the keynote speaker for the students' dinner at the Regal Riverfront Hotel. He has worked to expand the four-year program. The St. Louis Internship Program was started in 1992 by Tom Hullverson, a lawyer, to give inner-city youngsters work experience. COLUMBIA, Mo. Perot Set To Speak To Mizzou Students
