WINCHESTER Two Safety Aids Get OK: Alarm System, Cat Litter

The Winchester Board of Aldermen has approved two measures to improve safety.

The board approved the purchase of an alarm system for City Hall from ProGuard for a maximum cost of $900. Alderman Craig Mathews Sr. says Winchester will save considerably by buying rather than renting an alarm system; the monthly cost for buying it will be $15 rather than $33.

The board also approved the purchase of cat litter as a safety tool. The Winchester Police Department recently used 10 bags of cat litter to soak up transmission fluid from an accident site on Manchester Road. A supply will be kept on hand for future accidents handled by the department and to supply some traction on snowy and icy roads in winter.
