Charles R. Cordeal, a music teacher and church organist for nearly 46 years, died Sunday (Nov. 5, 1995) at his home in Webster Groves after a lengthy illness. He was 72.

Mr. Cordeal was choir director and organist at Mary Queen of Peace parish in Webster Groves from 1949 until his death. In a career that spanned nearly a half-century, Mr. Cordeal taught thousands of students throughout the St. Louis area on piano and organ.

Mr. Cordeal was born in Memphis, Tenn., and moved to St. Louis as a child with his family. He graduated from St. Mary's High School and later received his degree from the old St. Louis Institute of Music. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Cordeal was the music director of the old St. Louis Globe-Democrat's Christmas Carol Pageant; a member of the St. Louis Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission; and the founder of the Archdiocesan Organist Training Program. …
