Firm Will Offer Ideas for Solutions to Drainage Woes

The president of the St. Charles City Council says an engineering firm will give city officials a report next month on potential solutions to drainage problems in the First Capitol Drive-West Clay Street area.

Council President Rose Kasper, 8th Ward, said Friday that representatives of the firm - Burns and McDonnell Inc. of south St. Louis County - had agreed to provide a preliminary report at the council's meeting Dec. 12 on their drainage study in the First Capitol-West Clay area.

"They should tell us whether a retention lake will help or whether it should be more than one lake and how far downstream the benefits will go," said Casper.

She stressed that the report would be preliminary and was unlikely to result in the formation of definitive redevelopment plans for the area, "but it will give us an idea of where we should be headed."

City officials are awaiting a study on drainage problems in the area before they consider redevelopment at First Capitol and West Clay. …
