Gates Closed While Ruling Is Appealed Legal Process Likely to Take 6 Months, City Attorney Says

Some Pasadena Park residents are not taking well to life behind bars, but unless a recent court decision is overturned, the privacy gates the Board of Trustees installed earlier this year will probably remain closed.

At a recent meeting, residents complained that since the gates were locked on Oct. 14, they have had to drive a few blocks out of their way to get out of their neighborhood.

"We made a decision to install these gates in order to increase safety and decrease cut-through traffic and crime," said Chairman Timothy Britt. "The board did what it did because it felt that was what was best for the city. Period. End of story."

The trustees installed four privacy gates in early June at a cost of $4,600. Residents have complained that they were not consulted before the gates were put up at the western boundary of the village along Bermuda Road. The gates are at North Sunset, Warwick, Forestview and Rosedale avenues.

The Normandy Fire Protection District obtained a temporary restraining order against the village to keep if from locking the gates. …
