"MARS AND VENUS IN THE BEDROOM" By John Gray (5 3/4 hours, unabridged, Recorded Books, $11.50 rental, $39 purchase)

In his book "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus," the author put forward the premise that the genders behave so dissimilarly that they must be from different planets. For instance, a woman comes home with a problem: She wants to discuss it and get sympathy; he wants to provide an instant solution. They take a drive and get lost: She wants to ask for directions; he wants to get unlost by himself.

What John Gray had to say was convincing enough to get him on television talk shows and provide him with an opportunity to write a follow-up. Actually, he has some pretty good information about the differences between men and women when it comes to the bedroom.

What he is suggesting is that individuals in a monogamous relationship can keep the heat of passion alive if they just understand that men and women are not only physically different but their needs, thoughts, urges and chemistry are not the same either.

Gray is a clear and precise writer. So anyone who listens to the book shouldn't be confused, especially with an excellent reader like George Guidall. But when individuals only hear what someone else has to say about the author's theories, they can get a cramp, and then produce unseemly noises.
