Clinton Visited Site of Questioned Deal Three Times in '80S, Witness Testifies

Bill Clinton visited the site of a questionable real estate deal run by his Whitewater business partner James McDougal as many as three times in the mid-1980s when he was governor of Arkansas, according to testimony before the Senate Wednesday.

Bob Nash, now a White House aide and formerly an aide to Clinton in Arkansas, testified before the Senate Whitewater committee that he and the governor had visited McDougal at an office trailer across the street from a warehouse that was part of the Castle Grande real estate development.

Nash said he was later twice questioned about the visit by White House aide Bruce Lindsey, who was doing damage control for the White House on Whitewater.

The Senate committee also released a transcript of a sworn statement to federal regulators by a former McDougal employee, Susan Strayhorn, who remembered another Clinton visit to the site.

Strayhorn testified she saw Clinton, "out at the Castle Grande sales office. . . . Jim (McDougal) said something about giving him a tour. …
