HOSPITAL CONFAB: The big question for today's board meeting of the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis Auxiliary is whether the hospital will shed its every-five-years Clover Ball, since the infirmary has been gobbled up by BJC Health Services. The auxiliary hosts the hifalutin Clover Ball, next scheduled in the spring of 1997. The event has traditionally raised exceptional sums for the hospital's services; more than $460,000 was netted in 1992.

NITECAP: Redel's is where Judge Charles Shaw and his ever-lovin' Suzie dined t'other eve, while lullabying between courses. Their first offspring is due this week. Also at Redel's, businessman Norm Champ told an agreeable Jane North, a Missouri probation and parole officer, "I think drugs will eventually be legalized." Champ was with his wife, Judy, who trumpeted the recent birth of her first grandchild. He's Charles Michael Zoller, son of Judy's daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kurt Zoller (she's in PR and beat the drums for the bow of the Rock and Roll Museum; he's with Foote Cone & Belding in ChiTown). Nearby, fitness instructor Suze Schwartz and daughter-in-law to be Mary Ann Caradonna toasted Mary Ann's upcoming marriage to fellow attorney Joel Schwartz. It's May 4 at the Studio in St. Albans.

CULLING THE CLIPS: Martha Stewart Living magazine's special issue on "Weddings" includes a "Handmade Wedding" feature. It focuses on WashU art students "Nancy" and "Matthew," "who orchestrated a classic wedding, sit-down dinner and all, for less than $10,000." The story goes that the couple - all set to hire a trendy caterer - "got cold feet" when the caterer blew them off by not returning phone calls. Matthew is quoted, "Just two blocks from the Old Courthouse is one of the best restaurants in St. Louis, Kemoll's. . . . They invited us to the restaurant as guests to try the food. …
