Ivey Takes over as Cor Jesu Drops Oakville

Cor Jesu has faced Oakville in a district championship game the last four years. If they meet again next season, something will be missing.

Niele Ivey, who had a game-high 25 points for Cor Jesu in its 65-36 win over Oakville in Saturday's district title game at Lindbergh, graduates this year and will attend Notre Dame.

"She's a player," Oakville coach John Carrington said. "Whenever she wants to take (the game) over, she'll take it over. If we would have got close at all, she would have just picked it up a notch."

Reporter: "Glad to see her go?"

Carrington: "Yeah, I think everybody is."

Last season, Cor Jesu coach Gary Glasscock said the same thing about St. Joseph's Kristin Folkl and Mollie Peirick, who led the Angels to four successive Class 4A titles from 1991-94.

With those players gone, Ivey and the Chargers went on to win the 4A title with a 31-0 record.

Cor Jesu looks to make the next step toward its second state crown when it meets Lafayette (12-14) in Wednesday's sectional at Maryville University. …
