Ex-Chamber of Commerce Official to Seek County Council Seat

Arlene Hogue, former executive director of the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, has announced that she will seek the Republican nomination for the 6th District seat on the County Council.

"It was something I had considered doing when the County Council was first organized (in 1992)," said Hogue, 53, of St. Charles. "I didn't think I could do that before and still keep my job as director of the chamber."

Hogue, who lives at 2916 Westover Place, is running for public office for the first time.

The district, which covers the northern part of the city of St. Charles and the rest of the northeastern part of the county, is represented by Jerry McGovern, the only Democrat on the seven-member council.

McGovern has said that he has yet to decide whether to seek re-election.

Steve Gilkey, an electrician, Orchard Farm resident and president of the newly formed Northeast St. Charles County Democratic Club, announced last week that he would seek the Democratic nomination for the seat. …
