Viacheslav Kozlov scored twice in the third period as the visiting Detroit Red Wings broke open a close game to beat the New York Islanders 6-2 Tuesday night and win their fifth successive contest. Kozlov broke a 2-2 tie at 2 minutes 22 seconds of the third on a breakaway pass from Viacheslav Fetisov.

Penguins 7, Canucks 4: Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr each scored twice to lead Pittsburgh to a victory in Vancouver. Jagr boosted his season total to 54 goals, adding in a pair of assists as well, while Lemieux remained one back at 53. Vancouver's Alexander Mogilny registered his 49th.

Capitals 5, Rangers 3: New York suffered a rare home loss as Joe Juneau scored twice in the third period to give Washington a victory. The Rangers lost for the first time in 92 games when they led after two periods. They had been 85-0-6 in those games.
