Former Vice President Dan Quayle said Monday that President Bill Clinton criticized him in 1992 when Quayle talked about family values, "and today he gives my speech."

Saying he feels vindicated after attacks he took four years ago, Quayle signed copies of his new book, "The American Family," at The Library Ltd. in Clayton.

A much smaller crowd turned out, compared with the 1,000 who made purchases two years ago when Quayle signed copies of his first book, "Standing Firm." The store reported sales of 180 books, and about 300 people attending.

With a book theme of family values, the crowd was heavily sprinkled with families with young children. Quayle, who said he was waiting for his chance to run for president, happily posed for pictures with the youths.

Charles Davis of Joplin, Mo., his wife, Laura, and daughter, Jenifer, 3, were in the line. They bought three books at $25 each. Charles Davis said one was for his father-in-law and the third was for his best friend. …
