Ridley's 4 Wins Carry Carlinville; Flyers Edged

Tunde Ridley became only the second athlete to win four events in 102 years of the Illinois boys track meet, carrying Carlinville to the Class A team title Saturday.

Wheaton Warrenville South held off second-place East St. Louis 56-52 for the Class AA title.

Ridley won the long and triple jumps for the second year in succession, and also the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He matched the 1981 quadruple by Chicago Luther South's Mike Conley in the same Class A events. Conley was a multiple NCAA champion at Arkansas and won the triple jump gold medal in the 1992 Olympic Games.

Ridley, who plans to attend the University of Illinois on a track scholarship, long jumped 24 feet 2 inchesw, breaking the Class A record of 23-10 3/4 set by Wheaton Christian's Carl Myers in 1990.

His other marks were 10.72 seconds in the 100, 21.69 seconds in the 200 and 46-11 1/4 in the triple jump. He had 40 of his team's 46 points, enough to win the title by himself. Rushville was second, with 31. …
