Tree-Planting Ceremony to Honor Crime Victims

Officials, people who have been touched by crime and others who are interested are invited to participate in National Crime Victims' Rights week by gathering Friday in St. Peters for a tree-planting ceremony in commemoration of victims.

Relatives of crime victims will speak Monday at a program in St. Charles.

Maggie Lipman, coordinator of the Victims of Crime Assistance program of the St. Charles County prosecutor's office, said the planting of a tree at a site overlooking the lake at St. Peters' City Center was expected to be an annual activity. Lipman said the group would eventually be responsible for a grove of trees. The ceremony will be the kickoff for Crime Victims' Rights Week, which starts Monday. People who want to participate in the tree-planting should meet at 3 p.m. Friday at the west parking lot of the city center. The group will walk from there to the site of the ceremony.
