Carwash Fails to Comply with Ordinances, Officials Say; to Keep Closing Early

The Wally Wash carwash at 5439 Telegraph Road, Oakville, will continue to close at 6 p.m. for now.

County officials last Thursday told the County Council's Public Improvements Committee that the carwash did not comply with county ordinances. County Councilman George "Jerry" Corcoran, D-2nd District, the committee chairman, said his group "is not going to do anything until the carwash is in compliance."

The committee met for 45 minutes to consider the owner's request that the carwash be allowed to remain open until 8 p.m.

The carwash did not meet the lighting requirements of the ordinance establishing zoning for the business, County Counselor John Ross said. It also has installed a banner without obtaining the required permit from the county, he said.

The banner blamed County Council Chairwoman Deborah Kersting, D-6th District, for the carwash closing at 6 p.m. Kersting represents the area of the carwash. Ross said the wording on the banner had nothing to do with it violating county regulations. …
