Kevorkian Present At A 35th Suicide

The 35th person to commit suicide with Dr. Jack Kevorkian's help - a nurse from Massachusetts - suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome that was destroying her body like AIDS, Kevorkian's lawyer said Friday.

"This is not the virus that causes AIDS, but it produced exactly the same type of immune deficiency that AIDS produced," attorney Geoffrey Fieger said.

Judith Curren, 42, of Pembroke, Mass., a registered nurse and mother of two children, 9 and 7, died Thursday with her husband, Dr. Franklin Curr en, a psychiatrist, at her side. Also with her was Kevorkian and Dr. Georges Reding, also a psychiatrist and Kevorkian supporter. Her body was taken to a hospital in Pontiac, Mich., by Kevorkian and Reding.

Fieger would not say where or how Curren died. Curren's was the 35th death that Kevorkian has acknowledged taking part in since 1990.

4 Cubans Rescued After Plane Crashes

A small plane hijacked by three Cubans who forced the pilot to fly to Florida plunged into the Gulf of Mexico Friday, but all on board were rescued, U.S. officials said.

The hijackers and the pilot, also a Cuban, were plucked from the ocean by rescuers in a lifeboat from a nearby Russian freighter, about 50 miles off Naples on Florida's west coast. One of the men was taken to a hospital in Fort Myers, Fla., with a broken nose, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

The three Cuban passengers immediately asked for political asylum, while the pilot said he wanted to go home.
