Tower Grove Park Gets Raves from Raven

PARTY TIME: "Plans are going ahead to design the visitors' center in our four-square-mile Arboretum in Franklin County," Missouri Botanical Garden topper Peter Raven said at Saturday night's Party at the Palm House in Tower Grove Park. As for Tower Grove, he said: "Ten years ago, I never could have imagined this park could be in such good shape as it is now." Raven, a 25-year commissioner of the park, said he attended solo because his wife, Kate Fish, was in Brussels "organizing a meeting on environment for Monsanto Co."

The party, which raised almost $70,000 for the interior renovation of th e historic Palm House, began with cocktails in the Victorian "ruins" alongside the lily pond, followed by dinner on the plaza. Goza, a band provided by Eddie Fritz, played salsa and contemporary faves for dancing.

FROM THE BERGERMEISTER: RCGA chief Dick Fleming, WashU's Cedge Barksdale and Thompson Coburn partner Charles Saulsberry anchored the welcoming committee at an America's Center reception last week for new St. Louis Development Corp. exec director Maureen McAvey. Mayor Boz and the St. Louis Ambassadors sponsored the affair. . . . The Missouri Growth Association, the region's pre-eminent group of commercial property owners, will fund up its JeffCity lobbying war chest with the proceeds from a $150-$1,000 fund-raiser Sept. 26 in the Chromalloy Building. Real estate barons Tee Baur, Gary Follman; Michael Convy, Greg Nooney and Mark Schnuck are among this year's sponsors of the annual event. …
