Girlfriend Questioned in Collinsville Killing Authorities Decline to Call Her a Suspect

Police on Monday night were questioning the live-in girlfriend of a man who was slain in his Collinsville apartment over the weekend.

Belleville police Sgt. Mike Boyne of the St. Louis Major Case Squad said police found Susan M. Johnson, 40, earlier Monday at a house where she had been staying since shortly after the body of her boyfriend, Frank E. Brown, 44, was found.

Monday night, Boyne said Johnson was being detained as a suspect. He said police might seek warrants today. Boyne said that police were trying to learn what she knew about the killing, because "she is the renter of the apartment" where Brown's body was found. Brown and Johnson had shared that apartment in b the first block of Marcia Court. Boyne declined to give the location of the house where police found Johnson. "She voluntarily came out of the house when police arrived," Boyne said. Brown's body was found Saturday night wrapped in a blanket and stuffed in a trash can in the apartment. …
